JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

Jean Paul Gaultier Designer History

Jean Paul Gaultier is well known for his street and pop culture inspired prêt a porter fashion shows. Although he never received formal design training, Jean Paul Gaultier did make a name for himself in fashion beginning with the first sketches he produced for famous couture stylists at an early age. In 1970 he was hired as an assistant to designer Pierre Cardin and his career took off from there.

In 1976 Jean Paul Gaultier’s first collection was introduced along with his reputation as an irreverent character, an ‘enfant terrible’ of French fashion. One of the things Jean Paul Gaultier is most known for is his costume collaborations with Madonna during the nineties. Both the infamous cone-bra worn in 1990 and the wardrobe for her Confessions Tour in 2006 are attributed to the design inspirations of Jean Paul Gaultier.

Jean Paul Gaultier Perfume History

Jean Paul Gaultier perfume, Classique, was first introduced in 1993. Soon after Le Mâle for men, the first Jean Gaultier cologne hit the scenes. Both were instantly successful which led to a number of subsequent scents.
