FENDI – DESIGN HOUSE HISTORY
The fashion design house Fendi was founded in 1925 by Edoardo and Adele Fendi in Via del Plebiscito, Rome. The handbag shop and fur workshop quickly became the destination of couples in love, venturing out on a date, perusing their quality products and impeccable designs. By the late 30s and early 40s, the Fendi name was becoming well known outside of their home city of Rome and in 1946, the company started increasing its line of fur products and leather goods thanks to the energetic imagination of Eduardo and Adele’s five daughters.
A few years later, the five Fendi daughters met a fledgling designer by the name of Karl Lagerfeld and brought him into the Fendi business where he literally transformed fashion’s relationship with fur. In 1969, the Fendi Bag underwent a major transformation as the brand started releasing softer, less-structured bags featuring printed, tanned, woven and dyed leather.
In 1977, the brand launched its first ready to wear collection, which further expanded in 1984 to include gloves, ties, sunglasses, jeans and other garments and accessories. In 1997, the Fendi Baguette is introduced to immediate success and in 2005, the Palazzo Fendi in Rome was opened to commemorate the company’s eightieth anniversary. In October of 2007, Fendi became the first design house ever to stage a fashion show on China’s Great Wall. Today, Fendi operates over 160 boutiques in 25 countries around the world.
Fendi Fragrances – Perfumes
The first Fendi fragrance for women, Fendi Perfume, was released in 1985, followed by Asja, Fantasia and Fendi Theorema for Women. More recent Fendi perfume launches include 2005’s Fendi Celebration and 2007’s Fendi Palazzo.
Fendi Fragrances -- Colognes
Fendi Cologne, the first mens fragrance from Fendi, was introduced in 1988 followed by the 1996 release of Fendi Life Essence and 1998’s Fendi Theorema for Men.
