DONNA KARAN
History of the Donna Karan Designer Brand
Donna Karan, born Donna Faske in New York, NY in 1948, started her journey into the fashion world after dropping out of school in 1962 to sell clothing at a local boutique. At the age of 18, she attended Parsons School of Design, married Mark Karan and gave birth to her daughter, Gabrielle. Donna Karan later divorced her husband in 1983, and married her childhood sweetheart and sculptor, Stephan Weiss. When she was 20, Karan held a summer job where she worked under designer Anne Klein, and eventually returned to Klein for full-time work in 1970. During that same year, Donna Karan garnered three Coty Awards. Anne Klein died of cancer in 1974, and Karan kept the wheels of the company in motion, completing Klein’s original collection.
Donna Karan Perfume
In 1992, Donna Karan introduced her first fragrance to the public, Eau de Parfum, along with her self-titled and popular Donna Karan perfume. Over the next 15 years, the Donna Karan perfume collection would grow substantially, producing more than ten designer fragrances for both men and women. Chronologically, these men’s and women’s Donna Karan designer fragrances include: Cashmere Mist perfume, Donna Karan’s first men’s cologne, DK Men (1994), DK Men Unleaded (1995), Chaos for Women (1996), DKNY scents for men and women (2000), Black Cashmere perfume (2002), DKNY Energy (2003), DKNY Be Delicious for Women (2004), DKNY Be Delicious for Men (2005), Gold for Women fragrance (2006).
