BURBERRY
The History of the Thomas Burberry Designer Brand
In 1856, Thomas Burberry, a 21-year-old living in Basingstoke, Hampshire in England, founded the Burberry company. By the time he was 35-years-old, Burberry had established his business as a distinguished source for outdoor wear. Ten years after the inception of his outdoor clothing line, Burberry invented the water-resistant, durable and breathable “gabardine,” a fabric made with yarn that he waterproofed before weaving. He patented the popular fabric in 1888. Three years later, in 1891, Thomas Burberry had opened an emporium stationed in the Haymarket in London, which is currently the site of Burberry’s corporate headquarters.
The Burberry company has branded stores and franchises across the globe while overseeing both a catalog business and a fragrance line. Today, Burberry's trademark products include fashionable handbags and exclusive fragrances, and both HM Queen
Elizabeth and HRH The Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants.
Burberry Designer Perfume
Burberry designs ten perfumes and six colognes, including Burberry Brit, Touch, Brit Gold, London, Summer, Tender Touch, Baby Touch, Brit Red, and Weekend. The outrageously popular Burberry Brit is the best-known scent among the fragrance line, along with Burberry Brit Gold, launched by the company in 2005.
The Burberry fragrance collection is the crown jewel centerpiece of the brand, and Burberry fragrances are just as successful as the fashion end of the business.
