BOB MACKIE PERFUME AND COLOGNE HISTORY
Born in 1940 in Monterey Park, California, Bob Mackie started his career as a sketch artist for film designer Jean Louis. He has been nominated for three Academy Awards and 31 Emmy Awards, of which he has been awarded nine. Having worked on “The Carol Burnett Show” and as principal costume designer for Cher; Bob Mackie is the only costume designer to ever be inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
In 1982, Bob Mackie established Bob Mackie Originals, his first ready-to-wear collection. The collection immediately opened up new and exciting artistic avenues for the designer and started the foundation for his signature line of Bob Mackie perfumes and colognes. In the 1990’s, Bob Mackie was contracted by Mattel Toys to design a line of dresses for their top-selling Barbie doll, which he continues to do to this day. The designer also found a strong following on the television shopping network, QVC, for his “Wearable Art” program, which has been a customer favorite for over 17 years.
In 1998, Bob Mackie brought his sense of style and elegance to the world of home furnishings with his debut collection, “Bob Mackie Home,” by American Drew. The collection was a tremendous success for the designer and he continues to make an impact in home design with his innovative lighting solutions for industry giant, Murray Feiss Lighting. In 2005, Mackie received an honorary doctorate degree from Otis College of Art & Design, where he has mentored design students for over 20 years.
