SEAN JOHN FRAGRANCE HISTORY
Sean John “Diddy” Combs was born in November of 1969 in Mount Vernon, New York. From his early days as a concert promoter, it was easy to see that this was an inspired individual who would ultimately transcend the lines between media, fashion and music. Working his way up from an intern at New York’s Uptown Records, Combs eventually found himself in the role as the company’s top executive.
In 1993, Combs, then fired from his position at Uptown, launched his own record label, Bad Boy Records, signing such acts as Notorious B.I.G., Boyz II Men, Usher, Mary J. Blige and others. In 1997, Combs released his first rap album under the name Puff Daddy, and instantly became an icon in the rap community.
In 1998, Sean Combs launched his signature apparel line under the name Sean John. He has since been honored with five nominations from the CFDA (Counsel of Fashion Designers of America) for excellence in design, and in 2004 he was awarded the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Best Menswear Designer. Today, the Sean John brand, which now includes eyewear, underwear, socks, Sean John fragrances and more, is recognized as a leader in the couture industry with its broad appeal to both men and women.
Sean John for Men
Sean John released its first cologne, Unforgivable, in 2006 through Estee Lauder to tremendous success. It was the best selling fragrance that year, even outselling all women’s fragrances, and it eventually was awarded Fragrance of the Year by the Fragrance Foundation. With the international success of Unforgivable behind it, Sean John for Men recently released its latest colognes, I Am King and I Am King of the Night.
